Quick Look: Pica Facebook Client for iPadPosted by Thomas on Jun 17, 2012 in iPhone News, Uncategorized | Comments Off
I’ve been playing with the beta version of the Pica 2.5 Facebook app on the iPad, and it’s looking to be a very solid replacement for Facebook’s slower official app, but for a few missing features.
Pica allows you to like and commment, update your status, chat with friends, and view your notifications. It even makes it a little easier to access more advanced Facebook features, like Groups, from a very clean menu anchored to the left side of the screen. Using Pica is a delight, as the app is chock full of little animations and sound effects, and the gestures for pinching photos shut or swiping into comment sections feel just right. There are also little extras, like built-in support for the Readability mobilizer, which makes reading linked posts a lot easier.
What you won’t find in the current version of Pica are push notifications, uploads for multiple photos, or the ability to view your albums. The FAQ says that the first two features are in the works, so I’m hoping that the latter will make its way to the iPad at some point. But the take-home point is this: what Pica can do, it does quite well. It’s already a cheap app for $0.99, but there’s also a lite version in the App Store if you’d like to try before you buy.
